One of the foundational beliefs of DataSite’s President and Founder, Jeff Burges is the importance of sharing knowledge and developing leaders. With almost 30 years in the real estate industry, Mr. Burges has been a part of some very big changes and shifts in the market place. (Which, as luck would have it, is how he came to start his current company, DataSite.) His involvement in organizations such as NAIOP, the commercial real estate association, both on a national and regional level, allows Mr. Burges to mentor others in the industrial/commercial/mixed use real estate industry.

On September 24, 2014, Mr. Burges led discussions at a Lunch & Learn session, presented by the Developing Leaders of NAIOP San Diego and held at the Conference Center at Campus Point – Green Acres, on “Investing in Real Estate 101.” The panel consisted of other experts in the real estate market from CBRE, Millimaki Eggert LLP and Finest City Realty Advisors. These industry leaders came together to share their philosophy and some of the lessons they have learned along the way with a diverse group of 100 next generation real estate professionals, all eager to know how to move forward in their careers.

The discussion began with the impetus of a real estate development project; a broker and a developer weaving a dream to deliver a commercial real estate project, and moved through the process toward the end result of the rocky road of real estate development. Mr. Burges created and shared a spreadsheet that walked the attendees through the scenario allowing them to actually see the process unfold and understand the steps involved.

Not only did Mr. Burges provide them with next steps but he gave them options for those that are risk takers and those who want to follow a more conservative track. His passion for the industry was well received and there were a number of people looking to meet with Mr. Burges after the event and hoping to be on his mentorship team next year.

“Mr. Burges has been a key pillar in our Developing Leaders initiative. He leads by example and is so eager to help grow the next generation in the industry”, said Courtney Moore, Program Coordinator for NAIOP San Diego.
