SSAE 16 Type II Audit
SSAE 16 (formerly SAS-70) is the definitive standard by which DataSite clients and their auditors can gain comfort that operational controls at DataSite are adequate to prevent or detect any operational inefficiencies or oversights that could impact a customer’s IT operations. DataSite’s SSAE 16 Type II audit includes a description of controls as well as detailed testing of the controls over the last 12 months to show that the controls were operating with sufficient effectiveness and to provide a reasonable assurance that the control objectives were achieved during the audit period.
If you are an industry veteran than you might be more familiar with SAS 70. However, in June 2011, SSAE 16 was implemented as the new standard for reporting on controls at service organizations replacing Statement on Auditing Standards no. 70 or SAS 70.
The largest difference is that the SSAE 16 standard require service organizations to provide a description of its “system” along with a written statement of assertion. Differing from SAS 70 in requiring not only a description of “controls” but also a description of its “system”, which is considered to be more comprehensive and expansive.
At DataSite our facilities, security, controls and objectives are SSAE 16 Type II Audited. This strict independent audit covers all security and operational controls and is performed annually. The annual report is available to all DataSite colocation customers as we believe in complete transparency.
